Getting settled in…

From my last post a few post back It was Wednesday and I was waiting for confirmation on the job. If you follow me on facebook and twitter than you saw I got the job. I have screamed and hollared for almost a week straight so im not gonna do it again. *smile* Each day I show up for work I can feel my heart fluttering and jumping about with excitement and anticpate knowing I am going to be apart of helping moms from pregnacy till AT LEAST 6months of exclusive breastfeeding and If all goes well…getting these moms to a year of breastfeeding. I am still breastfeeding and realize that without support you can fall and be lost between the formula cracks IF breastfeeding is your goal. Now dont take offense about formula feeding…im not bashing it all….what Im saying IS….IF your goal is breastfeeding and your informed about your decsion then you want to make sure you have help meeting your goal. Alot of moms can have a baby that comes out latching on like a pro and hav smoove sailing the whole way……but there are moms that have it rough…the tongued tied baby, the sleepy baby due to medications thru labor….the mom who was just utterly exhausted after birth….the mom who cant find a LC or peer counselor who will help them with in hours after there babies birth to get the baby latched on…..the baby that “nipple latches” or dont have the proper latch and isnt getting enough milk and gets frustrated and crys at the breast….all the above things mentioned (which are not ALL of the problems) are ways a mom who is determined to breastfeed will give up as fast a few hours after birth and up to 2 weeks in. Each day I learn more about my role as peer counseler I am eager to get my clients going and start there help. Even if you are not a breastfeeding mom, it would be nice if you seen or know of a breastfeeding mom and offer her some support….even something as simple as saying “keep up the good work”. It counts.
